I had always been curious about this. I think my parents wouldn’t let me see this as a kid because they knew it was awful.
Dumb, in a boring way, but I’ve seen worse movies. Only vaguely related to the cartoon series I remember. Nearly all of the main characters were created whole-cloth for this movie. Like Super Mario Bros. or Garbage Pail Kids, it feels extremely non-canon. I think even as a kid in 1987 I would have thought: This isn’t He-Man!
Suffice it to say I was not expecting to see a laser shoot-out in front of an H&R Block.
Also, curiously, both Monica Geller and her mom Judy are in this one.
